Role Summary


The Academic Director/Manager will serve as the expert on the design and implementation of rigorous, effective, and student-centered academic programs at LEAD Morocco. He/she will work closely with the Program Director and academic staff to review and observe current practices and provide recommendations for improvement and innovation. Specifically, the Academic Director/Manager will deliver in the following areas:


1. Review and strengthen existing academic curriculum, to ensure all learning at LEAD Morocco is aligned with local standards and promotes student-centered learning
2. Conduct standardized classroom observations and design teacher training to improve teaching practice
3. Design assessments and track learning outcomes
4. Lead innovation in developing new academic programs and promote ongoing improvement of existing academic programs


Summary of Main Responsibilities


Review and strengthen existing academic curriculum

* Map current curriculum, including scope, sequence, learning objectives, materials, and assessment, at LEAD Morocco to ensure alignment with local standards across all subjects
* Identify opportunities to integrate international standards and increase the rigor of the current curriculum across all subjects 
* Review lesson plans and assessments designed by teachers to ensure alignment with curriculum and proper pedagogical practice 
* Develop materials or identify relevant partners to provide supplementary instruction in critical subject areas
* Provide and implement recommendations for improving the academic curriculum as LEAD Morocco grows


Conduct standardized classroom observations and design focused, tailored, ongoing, and practical teacher training to improve teaching practice

* Advocate for and provide training on student-centered and experiential learning in the classroom
* Utilize a standard classroom observation tool to conduct observations at a minimum of two 15-minute visits per teacher per month. 
* Map strengths and areas of improvement in teacher’s pedagogical practice 
* Design tailored teacher professional development opportunities that address teacher needs through group-based training, individual coaching, and/or communities of practice
* Ensure all teacher professional development is focused on particular skill gaps, is ongoing throughout the school year, and is practical and simple to implement in the classroom
* Develop partnerships with other organizations to provide supplementary teacher professional development as needed 


Design skill-based assessments to track student performance in foundational numeracy and literacy, as well as higher-order thinking skills, and create a comprehensive database to report on all learning outcomes

* Design and implement evidence-based and skill-based assessment to determine foundational numeracy and literacy skills of 4th - 6th grade students 
* Develop a remedial program for students who are not meeting baseline foundational skills 
* Design and implement grade-level skill-based assessments to assess and track students higher-order thinking skills, including critical thinking and problem solving
* Design, implement, and maintain a database of all student learning outcomes


Lead innovation in developing new academic programs and promote ongoing improvement of existing academic programs

* Align academic improvement strategy with the overall vision for growth and scale at LEAD Morocco
* Utilize data, observations, and learning to justify, develop, implement and evaluate new academic programs that meet the needs of students at LEAD Morocco
* Collaborate with LEAD Network organizations ideate and innovate on academic projects

Required Skills and Qualifications:


* Advanced degree in education
* 2-3 years of experience in a similar position
* Strong understanding of Moroccan curriculum and international academic standards
* Strong knowledge of emerging trends in education, pedagogy, and assessment
* Advocate for student-centered and experiential learning
* Ability to create new educational curriculum, content, and assessments as required
* Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build and maintain professional networks.
* Strong writing skills in French, English, and Arabic, with the ability to create new educational content.
* Versatility and strong adaptability to different stakeholders and environments.
* Proficiency in communication tools and basic educational software.
* Team-oriented mindset and passion for pedagogy.
