The Senior Engineer, Control Systems & Instrument reports directly to the Senior Manager, Maintenance Engineering, Integrity & Reliability and is responsible for identifying and managing risks associated with asset operations. This includes ensuring full compliance with the Maintenance Management System, integrity standards, and relevant industry regulations for all assets. The role ensures that all control systems, instrumentation, and related equipment meet the Company’s expectations for safety, operability, reliability, and maintainability across their entire lifecycle. This contribution is essential in reducing major hazard risks, enhancing facility availability, and maintaining asset integrity. The incumbent will also serve as the primary advisor and focal point for control systems and instrumentation matters, offering expert guidance on engineering solutions and reliability improvements across the Company. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
* Lead the operation and maintenance strategies for Control Systems and Instrumentation, including Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Emergency Shutdown Systems (ESD), Fire and Gas Systems (FGS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), transmitters, instrument valves, and other critical safety and field instrumentation.
* Manage obsolescence in control systems and instrumentation by identifying outdated components, assessing risks, and implementing timely upgrades or replacements in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
* Review and verify safety instrument integrity studies and ensure Operational Technology (OT) Security & Compliance in accordance with company and industry standards. Ensure ICS systems are designed, operated, and maintained in line with ICS policies.
* Maintain Level 2/Level 3 Process Control Network (PCN) components and applications including OPC, Plant Information systems, and Alarm Management systems.
* Approve changes and updates to instrumentation reliability and control systems, ensuring collaboration with Corporate IT, System Operators, and Business ICS Leads to meet cybersecurity standards.
* Ensure the integrity and reliability of control systems through routine inspections, testing, and preventive maintenance across all assets.
* Proactively identify and assess risks in instrumentation and control systems, ensuring mitigation strategies align with regulatory requirements.
* Manage the change process for instrumentation and control systems, evaluating safety, reliability, integrity, and cybersecurity impacts, and coordinating cross-functional implementation.
* Maintain accurate records of maintenance, cybersecurity, obsolescence management, and change processes to ensure compliance with internal and regulatory standards.
* Provide technical support to Asset teams for troubleshooting, commissioning, and start-up activities, collaborating to resolve issues and optimize system performance.
* Support technical studies and failure investigations, including review of P&IDs, Safety Integrity Level (SIL) assessments, and HAZOP sessions.
* Provide input into brownfield and greenfield engineering designs, upgrades, and modifications for control systems, ensuring alignment with integrity and reliability principles.
* Identify and implement improvement opportunities to enhance reliability, efficiency, and safety of instrumentation and control systems across all assets.
* Mentor junior engineers and technicians on best practices, safety, compliance, and developments in instrumentation and control systems.
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
* Bachelor’s degree in Instrument and Control Engineering or an equivalent qualification from a recognized university.
* 15 to 20 years of experience in instrument and control system design, operation, modification, and maintenance.
* Preferably experienced in the oil and gas industry with exposure to offshore operations.
* Strong knowledge of field instrumentation and control systems, including DCS, ESD, FGS, PLC, SCADA, and related components.
* Proficient in applying industry standards and regulatory requirements.
* Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to perform thorough risk assessments and resolve complex technical issues.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, contractors, and regulatory bodies.
* Proven leadership capabilities, with experience in mentoring and coaching junior engineers or technicians.
* Ability to perform effectively in dynamic and challenging offshore environments, with a strong focus on safety and operational excellence.
