🚢 Import Operations

In today’s globalized economy, import operations are no longer just about moving goods — they’re about integrating finance, compliance, logistics, and data management into a single, well-orchestrated process.

An Import Officer (Chargé(e) d’Import) sits at the intersection of these functions — ensuring that every shipment aligns with international trade regulations, company policy, and operational excellence.

🔧 Core Responsibilities

The role goes far beyond document handling. It requires end-to-end ownership of the import lifecycle:

* Import File Management: Tracking each shipment from order confirmation to final delivery, ensuring documentation accuracy and timely updates in ERP systems.
* Documentation & Compliance: Validating invoices, import commitments, certificates, and customs declarations, while maintaining full adherence to Incoterms and O.N.I.C.L. regulations.
* Financial Administration: Coordinating with finance teams on supplier payments, managing bank guarantees, and ensuring every import expense is correctly allocated.
* Cross-Functional Coordination: Acting as the central communication point among trading, sales, logistics, and finance, as well as external stakeholders like freight forwarders, customs brokers, and insurance agents.
* Performance Tracking: Monitoring KPIs, lead times, and process efficiency through dashboards and data-driven reporting.

🧠 Required Knowledge & Technical Expertise

This position demands both technical acumen and operational intelligence:

* Strong understanding of international trade frameworks, customs procedures, and import/export regulations.
* Deep knowledge of Incoterms, banking procedures, and documentary credit processes (LCs, guarantees).
* Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., SAP Business One) and data management for import tracking.
* Analytical mindset to identify process bottlenecks and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
* Fluency in English and French to coordinate with global suppliers and local authorities.

🎯 Why This Role Matters

Import operations form the backbone of international business performance.

Every delay, misfiled document, or compliance gap can directly impact revenue and client satisfaction. The import professional ensures not only that goods arrive — but that they do so on time, within budget, and in full compliance with global standards.

Their work blends strategic decision-making, financial discipline, and operational precision — qualities that make the role indispensable to sustainable business growth.

As global trade continues to evolve, the import function is transforming from an administrative process into a core strategic pillar of supply chain and financial efficiency.
