The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme is the UN organization that contributes to peace and development through volunteerism worldwide.
UNV contributes to peace and development by advocating for recognition of volunteers, working with partners to integrate volunteerism into development programming, mobilizing an increasing number and diversity of volunteers, including experienced UN Volunteers and online volunteers. UNV embraces volunteerism as universal, inclusive and recognizes volunteerism in its diversity as well as the values that sustain it: free will, commitment, engagement, and solidarity.
The regional office of Arab States is based in Amman, Jordan represented through the offices of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and reports to the UNDP Executive Board. It represents 19 countries in the region and consists of eight Field units (Jordan, Egypt, Palestine, Iraq, Sudan, Lebanon, Yemen and the MCFU Tunisia for Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya). In 2024, UNV ROAS focused on mobilizing volunteers (UN Volunteers and online) as timely for surge capacities for the UN system’s response to emergencies and crises, support workforce diversity and the UN’s people-centered approach; the emphasis is on engaging candidates for Community, Refugee, Youth and Expert Volunteers; advancing UNV’s standing as system-wide service by further diversifying its partnership base, with a specific emphasis on humanitarian partners. In addition to supporting various programs and initiatives for SDGs implementation within the region, the Regional Office is focused on the crisis response in the State of Palestine, Sudan, Yemen, Iraq, and in neighboring countries.
