We are seeking an enthusiastic and collaborative Secondary Musicianship & Ensemble Instructor to join our vibrant learning community. The successful candidate will inspire students through engaging music instruction, ensemble leadership, and performance opportunities while contributing to the continued growth of our secondary music program. Joining an expanding department, this second high school music teacher will collaborate closely with our existing team to support the continued growth of our performance programs.

STATEMENT OF DUTIES

Basic Duties

The Secondary Musicianship & Ensemble Instructor is responsible for planning, delivering, and assessing high-quality music instruction for secondary students. The teacher develops students' musicianship, technical proficiency, creativity, and appreciation for diverse musical traditions through engaging classroom instruction, ensemble participation, and performance opportunities. This role fosters artistic expression, collaboration, and confidence while supporting the school's mission, values, and commitment to academic excellence and student growth.

Duties and Responsibilities

Instructional Delivery & Curriculum

• Perform all teaching responsibilities in accordance with the policies, procedures, and professional expectations outlined in the RAS Faculty Handbook.

• Implement the school's Mission, Values, and expectations of High Quality Learning while delivering a comprehensive secondary music curriculum.

• Plan and deliver engaging, student-centered music instruction that develops musicianship, technical proficiency, creativity, music literacy, and performance skills.

• Teach instrumental and ensemble music using a variety of instructional strategies that meet the diverse learning needs of secondary students.

• Prepare students for concerts, assemblies, school celebrations, assemblies, and other performances that showcase student learning.

• Select and develop repertoire that is developmentally appropriate, culturally diverse, and aligned with program objectives.

• Collaborate with colleagues to support interdisciplinary learning opportunities and contribute to the continuous development of the secondary music curriculum.

Assessment & Student Support

• Use a variety of assessment strategies, including performance-based assessments, rubrics, observations, and student reflection, to evaluate learning.

• Analyze assessment data to monitor student progress, inform instructional decisions, and provide timely, constructive feedback.

• Differentiate instruction to support students with diverse learning needs, abilities, and backgrounds.

• Communicate student progress effectively through report cards, conferences, and ongoing communication with students and families.

• Foster student confidence, creativity, collaboration, and independent musical growth.

Learning Environment

• Create and maintain a safe, respectful, inclusive, and student-centered learning environment that promotes active participation and artistic excellence.

• Establish clear classroom expectations, routines, and rehearsal procedures that support effective learning and positive student behavior.

• Promote responsible care and appropriate use of musical instruments, equipment, and classroom resources.

• Maintain an organized and well-managed music classroom and rehearsal environment.

Performance & Program Development

• Plan, rehearse, direct, and conduct instrumental ensembles and school performances throughout the academic year.

• Support and promote student participation in concerts, assemblies, community events, and other performance opportunities.

• Assist with the selection, maintenance, inventory, and responsible use of musical instruments, equipment, and instructional resources.

• Support the continued growth, visibility, and excellence of the secondary school music program.

Communication & Collaboration

• Build positive relationships with students, families, colleagues, and administrators to support student success.

• Collaborate with faculty and school leadership to enhance the educational experience and contribute to a positive school culture.

• Maintain regular communication with families regarding student progress, performances, and program activities.

Professional Responsibilities

• Demonstrate professionalism, integrity, ethical conduct, and a commitment to the school's mission and international-mindedness.

• Participate actively in faculty meetings, professional development, school events, and collaborative planning.

• Engage in reflective practice and continuous professional growth.

• Supervise students during assigned duties and school activities.

• Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the Secondary School Principal.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

• Bachelor's degree in Music Education, Music, or a closely related field (Master's degree preferred).

• Valid teaching license, certification, or recognized teaching credential.

• Minimum of two years of successful secondary school music teaching experience (international school experience preferred).

• Demonstrated knowledge of secondary music pedagogy, instrumental and ensemble instruction, and performance-based learning.

• Experience teaching within a U.S.-based curriculum and/or an accredited international school is preferred.

• Fluency in spoken and written English.

SUPERVISORY

The Secondary Musicianship & Ensemble Instructor reports directly to the Secondary School Principal, and/or his/her designee. The Secondary Musicianship & Ensemble Instructor directly leads, supervises and evaluates the Library Support Staff.
