1- Lower Elementary Teacher

The Lower Elementary Classroom Teacher delivers high-quality instruction in core subject areas to students in Grades K-2, with a strong focus on building foundational literacy, numeracy, and social-emotional skills.

The teacher creates a structured, nurturing, and engaging learning environment that supports early independence, confidence, and a lifelong love of learning.

Working closely with colleagues and support staff, the teacher contributes to a coherent and developmentally appropriate program aligned with the mission and philosophy of Rabat American School (RAS). The role is critical in laying the academic and behavioral foundations that prepare students for success in Upper Elementary and beyond.

STATEMENT OF DUTIES

Instruction and Curriculum

  • Plan and deliver rigorous, developmentally appropriate lessons aligned with RAS curriculum standards for Grades K-2.

  • Build strong foundations in literacy (phonics, reading, writing) and numeracy through explicit, systematic instruction.

  • Use differentiated instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners and support early academic growth.

  • Design engaging, hands-on, and inquiry-based learning experiences that promote curiosity and active participation.

  • Integrate age-appropriate use of technology to support learning and creativity.

  • Use ongoing formative and summative assessments to monitor progress and adjust instruction accordingly.

Classroom Environment

  • Establish a structured, safe, and inclusive classroom that promotes consistency, routine, and a sense of belonging.

  • Support the development of self-regulation, independence, and positive learning behaviors.

  • Set clear expectations and guide students in developing responsibility and accountability appropriate to their age.

  • Provide consistent feedback, encouragement, and support to build confidence and resilience.

  • Explicitly teach and model social-emotional skills such as empathy, cooperation, and respect.

  • Monitor student well-being and collaborate proactively with families and counselors when needed.

Communication and Family Partnership

  • Maintain clear, consistent, and proactive communication with parents/guardians regarding student progress and classroom expectations.

  • Share updates through conferences, report cards, newsletters, emails, and phone communication.

  • Build strong, trust-based partnerships with families to support student learning and development.

Collaboration and Professional Culture

  • Collaborate closely with grade-level teams, specialist teachers (PE, Art, Music, Library, Languages), and support staff.

  • Contribute to curriculum planning and alignment across Grades K-2.

  • Actively participate in a collaborative, professional culture that prioritizes student success and program consistency.

  • Stay informed of school policies, procedures, and developments through required meetings and communications.

Professional Responsibilities

  • Uphold and implement the school’s Mission, Philosophy, and Educational Objectives in all interactions.

  • Participate actively in faculty meetings, professional development, and school initiatives.

  • Engage constructively in the teacher evaluation process.

  • Perform assigned supervisory duties.

  • Coordinate effectively with any assigned instructional aide.

  • Contribute to the Co-Curricular Activities (CCA) program by leading at least one activity per year.

  • Carry out additional duties as assigned in line with school policies and the Faculty Handbook.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field.

  • Valid teaching credential/certification.

  • Minimum of 2 years of successful full-time teaching experience at the elementary level.

The Lower Elementary Classroom Teacher reports directly to the Elementary School Principal. The Lower Elementary Classroom Teacher does not supervise other staff or employees.

STATEMENT OF DUTIES

Basic Duties

The Whole School (PK-12) Librarian is responsible for the strategic leadership, operational management, and daily execution of the RAS library and Learning Commons. This role ensures equitable access to a diverse, high-quality range of print and digital resources while cultivating an inclusive, positive, and inspiring learning environment. The Librarian champions community-wide development of information literacy, research skills, and a celebratory reading culture, while directly supervising and developing the library support staff.

Duties and Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership and Library Operation

  • Oversee the ongoing development of the library; prepare, execute, and evolve a comprehensive whole-school library strategic plan.

  • Maintain cutting-edge currency in the latest library trends, information literacy tools, emerging technologies, and flexible learning space designs.

  • Manage physical and digital library environments, maximizing the utility of everything from networked information assets to Learning Commons furniture and layout.

  • Update, implement, and assess appropriate policies for library utilization to ensure maximum operational effectiveness.

  • Maintain strong, professional relationships with external bodies, including global resource suppliers, publishers, and international school partnerships.

Collection Management and Information Systems

  • Select, acquire, catalog, classify, and disseminate information utilizing specialized library management software and technologies.

  • Curate a rich, diverse collection of websites, digital journals, databases, and physical/electronic books aligned with a PK-12 international curriculum.

  • Prepare and manage the annual budget and recommended acquisition lists based on data-driven school needs.

Instructional Delivery and Information Literacy

  • Devise and deliver transferable information literacy, research methodology, and digital citizenship courses for students and staff across all divisions (PK-12).

  • Provide an ongoing, school-wide program of instruction regarding the effective, ethical use of resource materials, databases, and media equipment.

  • Liaise and collaborate directly with academic staff at grade, department, and team leader levels to integrate information literacy skills seamlessly into the curriculum.

  • Contribute actively to academic course development and support the specialized information needs of teachers and students within specific subject areas.

Staff Supervision and Talent Development

  • Lead, manage, and supervise library support staff, ensuring clear daily workflows, rotas, and high-performance standards.

  • Train, mentor, and support the continuous professional development of library support staff to maintain a modern service-oriented environment.

Co-Curricular, Community Engagement & The “Fun” Factor

  • Bring the Learning Commons to life by designing engaging library events, author visits, book fairs, and vibrant literary celebrations that ignite a passion for reading.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field.

  • Minimum of 2 years of successful educational experience in a library or media center environment (International School experience preferred).
