STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Basic Duties
The Athletics and Activities Director sets and communicates a student-centered, inclusive vision for the department, aligned with the school’s mission.
The role oversees all athletics and activities programs across elementary and secondary divisions, ensuring compliance with interscholastic and international standards. The Director manages departmental personnel, budgets, and the facilities and day-to-day operations specific to athletics and activities, while building strong partnerships with students, staff, parents, and the broader community to foster engagement and school spirit.
Responsibilities & Duties
Leadership
* Establishes and maintains departmental vision and culture.
* Supports the School Director, Administration, and the school’s strategic goals and priorities. Board’s goals and priorities.
* Develops and enforces professional standards of conduct
* Recommends, informs, and administers procedures and regulations for interscholastic athletics and activities (MASAC, NAAA).
* Evaluates the development of programs using feedback from the community.
* Ensures compliance with Moroccan legal standards
* Promotes inclusion in recruiting, retaining, and hiring diverse coaching staff.
* Oversees student leadership organizations and related conferences/workshops.
* Supervises and directs the Athletics and Activities Lion Leaders (AALL) student-led organization.
Supervision
* Coordinates all after school athletics and activities personnel.
* Supervises scheduling, organizing of contests/games, and approval of officials.
* Ensures coaches hold required certifications (CPR/AED, concussion, child protection).
* Provides required training and mentoring for coaches.
* Evaluates head and assistant coaches annually (PGE).
* Includes and supervises student coaches and managers.
Operations
* Administers day-to-day interscholastic athletics and activities.
* Supports and assists w/ coordination of all athletic and activity transportation.
* Coordinates logistics for day and overnight trips (with Purchasing Dept., Co-Curricular Activities, Travel Coordinator).
* Decides on cancellations/postponements in collaboration with administration.
* Develops and distributes athletics handbooks/playbooks.
* Creates and updates emergency contact cards and policies annually.
* Plans and supervises recognition programs for students.
* Ensures eligibility of student-athletes according to school standards.
* Communicates effectively with Director, principals, and community stakeholders.
* Coordinates with the Facilities Committee on facility needs and long-term planning.
* Secures officials/referees for events and contests.
* Promotes local and international athletics participation.
* Distributes information via school website and hotline.
Community Engagement
* Builds relationships with local community agencies and outreach programs to expand opportunities for student activities and service.
* Fosters school spirit and support for athletics/activities.
* Serves as an information source for parents and students regarding program expectations, eligibility, and activity guidelines.
* Encourages collaboration with colleagues, coaches, students, parents, and officials to strengthen the school’s activities program.
Budget Inventory
* Prepares an annual budget aligned with school vision and spending plan.
* Monitors expenditures, fund balances, and financial responsibilities.
* Ensures financial practices follow best standards.
* Oversees inspection and improvement recommendations for facilities.
* Manages equipment and uniform inventory/rotation cycles.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
* A master’s degree in education, sports management, educational leadership, or a related field is required.
* Experience in organizing large events, athletics and activities, including staff coordination, program development, and budget management, is required.
SKILLS & ABILITIES
* Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to foster an inclusive and student-centered culture.
* Knowledge of interscholastic athletics and activities regulations (MASAC, NAAA).
* Familiarity with legal standards in athletics administration (Title IX, nondiscrimination, safety).
* Competence in budget planning and financial oversight.
* Organizational skills to manage logistics, scheduling, and program evaluation.
* Capacity to mentor, evaluate, and develop staff.
* Ability to collaborate across school divisions and with external partners.
* Proficiency in French and Arabic is desired.
SUPERVISORY RELATIONSHIP
The Athletics and Activities Director receives supervision from the School Director, and/or his/her designee.
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
The Athletics and Activities Director supervises the CCA Coordinator.
