Position Overview
We are seeking a CBRN Subject Matter Expert - Laboratory Diagnostics with specialized expertise in biological threat detection to support defense and global health security initiatives. This position will provide technical leadership for government programs focused on laboratory capacity building, biological threat diagnostics, and facility security enhancement across diverse international contexts. The successful candidate will contribute to our mission of strengthening partner nation capabilities to detect, identify, and respond to biological threats through advanced laboratory diagnostics.

Essential Job Functions
* Provide scientific and technical expertise on biological threats, including select agents, dangerous pathogens, and bioengineered organisms for laboratory diagnostics programs
* Lead development and delivery of comprehensive biological threat detection training programs in compliance with U.S. government standards (TOG, DCP frameworks)
* Support laboratory renovation and construction projects involving biological threat-capable facilities, ensuring adherence to international biosafety and security standards
* Conduct technical assessments of laboratory capabilities for safe detection, identification, and diagnosis of biological threat agents and dangerous pathogens
* Develop standard operating procedures, security protocols, and technical documentation for biological threat laboratory operations and pathogen diagnostics
* Collaborate with international partners, health ministries, and defense laboratories to advance biological threat detection and diagnostic capabilities
* Provide technical oversight for specialized biological diagnostic equipment procurement, installation, and commissioning
* Support stakeholder engagement and capacity building activities focused on biological threat reduction and laboratory preparedness across multiple countries
Necessary Skills and Knowledge
* Expert knowledge of biological threats including select agents, dangerous pathogens, and their biological characteristics, containment requirements, and detection methodologies
* Proficiency in BSL-2/BSL-3 laboratory design, operations, and safety protocol implementation
* Understanding of international biosafety standards, regulatory compliance, and biorisk management frameworks
Minimum Qualifications (Education, Experience, Skills)
* PhD with 5-8 years relevant experience; OR Master's degree with 7-10 years
relevant experience; OR Bachelor's degree with 10-15 years relevant experience
* Degree in Life Sciences, Microbiology, Biomedical Sciences, Public Health, or related biological sciences field
* Certified Biological Safety Professional (CBSP) certification through ABSA International or equivalent recognized biosafety certification
* Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience with select agents or high-consequence pathogens in laboratory or research settings
* Experience in international development or cross-cultural program delivery
* Travel Required: Extensive international travel across multiple continents
* English language proficiency (native or non-native)
Preferred Qualifications (Education, Experience, Skills)
* Experience supporting DTRA BTRP, CDC, or similar biological threat reduction programs
* Background in laboratory quality management systems (ISO 15189, CAP, etc.)
* Professional technical certification
* Foreign language proficiency a plus (i.e., French, Arabic)
* Published research or technical publications in select agent research or biosafety field
* Experience with facility renovation, construction oversight, or laboratory commissioning
