DevOps Engineer – Oracle DBA (Risk Squad)

About Phi Partners

Phi Partners is a leading global consultancy specialising in treasury and capital markets technology. With more than 500 professionals worldwide, we are recognised as the largest specialist consultancy dedicated to Sophis/Fusion Invest. For over 20 years, we have supported tier-one financial institutions in delivering complex transformation initiatives, regulatory programmes, and front-to-back platform modernisation projects across global markets.

Our technical capability spans database engineering, platform automation, and regulatory development within capital markets environments. We work as embedded engineers within our clients' squads, bringing specialist Oracle and SQL expertise to high-impact programmes.

The Programme

Phi Partners has been engaged by a leading European financial institution to support the delivery of SPARK, a major strategic programme that implements significant changes across the Sophis/Fusion Invest platform. SPARK drives wide-ranging impact across Finance and Regulatory Reporting (RTR), Equity Commodities, and Risk, requiring both functional and technical expertise to translate business requirements into platform-ready solutions across the FoBo and Risk squads.

The programme operates under an Agile delivery model, with squads working end-to-end across the backlog using sprint ceremonies including planning, refinement, retrospectives, and demos. Phi's consultants act as embedded members of the client's delivery squads, collaborating closely with internal stakeholders, business SMEs, and other technology teams to deliver high-quality outcomes within a fast-paced, regulated environment.

Roles and Responsibilities

As a DevOps Engineer (Oracle DBA) within the Sophis Risk Squad, you will be responsible for Oracle database administration, SQL development, query optimisation, and automation in support of the SPARK programme, including FRTB-related developments within the risk platform. Key responsibilities include:

  • Perform Oracle DBA activities across the Sophis risk platform, including database administration, performance tuning, schema management, and capacity oversight.

  • Develop and optimise SQL queries, stored procedures, and database objects to support SPARK Risk programme requirements.

  • Design and implement automation tooling to streamline database operations, reduce manual intervention, and improve platform reliability.

  • Contribute to FRTB-related SQL and database developments within the Sophis Risk platform, working closely with risk developers and business analysts.

  • Investigate and resolve database-related incidents and performance issues, providing expert root cause analysis and remediation.

  • Collaborate with the Risk squad on sprint planning, refinement, and delivery, contributing database and tooling expertise to the backlog.

  • Apply CI/CD practices within the database development and deployment pipeline, promoting automated testing and release governance.

  • Maintain up-to-date documentation for database schemas, automation scripts, and operational procedures.

  • Proactively monitor database performance across the risk stack, identifying and addressing potential bottlenecks before they impact delivery.

  • Support SIT and UAT phases by providing database investigation, diagnostic queries, and data-level fixes within agreed timelines.

Key Skills

Essential:

  • Proven Oracle DBA experience within a capital markets or financial services technology environment.

  • Strong SQL development skills including complex query writing, stored procedures, performance tuning, and object optimisation.

  • Experience developing automation tooling to support platform operations and reduce manual processes.

  • Familiarity with FRTB or other regulatory risk framework implementations from a database and technical perspective.

  • Experience working within an Agile delivery squad, contributing to sprint ceremonies and backlog management.

  • Proactive, assertive communicator with strong written and spoken English.

Nice-to-Have:

  • Experience with Sophis/Fusion Invest at the database or technical infrastructure layer.

  • Knowledge of DevOps tooling and CI/CD pipelines within a financial services platform context.

  • Exposure to PowerShell, Python, or shell scripting for database automation.

  • Knowledge of Dutch or French in addition to English.

This role offers the opportunity to apply specialist Oracle and SQL expertise within a high-impact risk technology programme at a leading European financial institution, contributing to FRTB developments and the automation of critical risk platform operations. We are always on the lookout for talented professionals who thrive in a dynamic, collaborative environment.
